IOLS (Introduction to Outdoor Leader Skills)

Boy Scouts Icon Introduction to Outdoor Leader Skills (IOLS)

Working as patrols, this hands-on course provides adult leaders the practical outdoor skills they need to lead Scouts in the out-of-doors. Upon completion, leaders should feel comfortable teaching Scouts the basic skills required to obtain the First Class rank. Along with Scoutmaster Specifics this course is required of all direct contact leaders registered in Scouts BSA Troops in order to be considered “trained”. AOL leaders are encouraged to take IOLS too in preparation for future SBSA leadership roles.

The next IOLS (S11) will be held on November 9-10, 2024 at Camp John J. Barnhardt. Registration is live!

To be eligible for the course, please have your online position specific training, YPT, and BSA health form parts A&B completed. Please bring your current Scouts BSA Handbook for use during training.
